Shu was born in China and grew up in Rochester, NY and Vancouver, WA. She graduated with a degree in Bioengineering from the University of Washington, where she first developed an interest in ophthalmology through bioengineering research. Prior to starting medical school, she spent a year volunteering with Americorps at International Community Health Services, where she was a patient navigator for the immigrant community in Seattle. She attended Oregon Health & Sciences University for medical school and is currently completing her internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, playing tennis, listening to audiobooks, and playing board games.
