Biography

Dr. Baran received her Medical Degree at Drexel University in 2001. She interned at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and completed her ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate in New York City. She completed a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Dr. Baran is committed is to providing children with a comfortable and friendly environment, so they feel at ease during eye exams. She understands that an unfamiliar environment can be intimidating; so she tries to make the whole experience as much fun as possible, which makes each day an exciting opportunity to help young people.

Good vision is essential for proper physical and emotional development, as well as educational progress in growing children. She aims to empower her adult patients to understand their medical condition and take an active role in their care. She also believes that listening is the first step in treating a patient's medical condition.

Dr. Baran lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband. Her personal interests include jogging, pure barre, traveling, and cooking.

Clinical interests

Dr. Baran’s clinical interests include pediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma, amblyopia, strabismus.  She also specializes in pediatric and adult cataracts, congenital anomalies, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, ptosis and nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

Research focus

Dr. Baran’s research areas of interest include myopia, cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity, treatment of nasolacrimal duct obstruction, and ocular colobomas.
