Alumni newsletter makes debut

University of Washington’s Department of Ophthalmology is a special place, with a rich history as a great training site, a center for research and innovation in ophthalmology, and a unique place in caring for patients with eye disease throughout the Northwest.  Since the inception of our training programs 54 years ago, we have graduated over 200 residents and fellows who practice in every subspecialty around the globe.  The lessons learned from our mutual teachers and colleagues have impacted the care of hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide.

In the past year, we have moved to fully incorporate alumni relations within our department’s functions.  Assistant Professor (and research and residency alumna) Karine Bojikian, MD, PhD, has agreed to serve as our inaugural alumni liaison, and she is already working to enhance our alumni relations, including the launch of this inaugural newsletter.  We are hopeful that a regular newsletter on the activities of our department and its alumni will help strengthen the bonds between our trainee and faculty alumni and our current faculty, staff, and trainees.
