    After receiving M.D and Ph.D. degrees from the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry (now Rutgers), Tom completed ophthalmology residency training at the University of Washington.  Following additional fellowship training at the University of Minnesota he joined the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Washington where he rose to the rank of Professor.  Tom was first surgical director and then medical director of the Lions Eye Bank (now SightLife).  He practiced later at Virginia Mason and finally at Group Health, both in the Seattle area, and continued on the clinical faculty of the University of Washington Department of Ophthalmology.  He enriched the training and the lives of countless medical students and ophthalmology residents.

    Tom died unexpectedly on March 3, 2016 and leaves behind a grieving family and so many more who knew and loved him.  He is memorialized in these links to the Seattle Times:
