Dr. Nguyen was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam. He moved to sunny California at the age of 19 to pursue higher education. He graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology. After college, Dr. Nguyen spent 2 years doing epigenetic research and working as a child life specialist at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. These experiences magnified his interest in medicine and helped him earn a full scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. In medical school, he was active in both basic research and community service. He especially enjoyed his time leading the Free Eye Clinic to provide eye care for underserved population in Dane County, Wisconsin. Upon graduation, he was awarded Honors in Ophthalmology Research. After 4 years of long cold winters in the Midwest (with the last one dropping to -60°F!), Dr. Nguyen is thrilled to come back to the West Coast for ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife and son, as well as hiking and sniffing local flowers with his maltipoos Hershey and Popcorn. He looks forward to exploring Seattle and its diverse food scene.
