Dr. Mercado was born in Cebu, Philippines and raised in Coral Springs, Florida. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She completed her medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Stanford University’s Byers Eye Institute in Palo Alto, California and her sub-specialty fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Casey Eye Institute of Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Mercado’s clinical interests include pediatric strabismus, amblyopia/refractive error, nasolacrimal disorders, pediatric cataracts, and systemic diseases that affect the eyes.

Research Focus

Dr. Mercado’s research interests include global health in ophthalmology and the implementation of new technologies in medical education.
