Dr. Howell was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He grew up playing basketball and competed in downhill ski racing throughout the Cascade mountains. He attended Oregon State University where he completed a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and biophysics and earned his medical degree from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. During medical school, Grant was inspired by his mentors to pursue ophthalmology and conducted research on direct ophthalmoscopy simulation and ocular toxoplasmosis. Dr. Howell is excited to return to the Pacific Northwest to continue his training as well as explore Seattle and the surrounding mountains.
