Biography

Dr. Mattson was born and raised in Puyallup, Washington. At 13, Nicole was inspired to pursue ophthalmology after becoming enamored with the anatomy during a sheep eyeball dissection and subsequently witnessing the profound impact that her local ophthalmologist had on his patients and their vision. She eventually moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and a minor in Global Health.

Before medical school, she spent two years working on developing a gene therapy targeting red-green colorblindness. She went on to attend the University of Washington School of Medicine and is thrilled to stay in Seattle and continue her training at the University of Washington for ophthalmology with an integrated internal medicine internship year. Dr. Mattson is a Pacific Northwesterner and Husky to her core and enjoys being outside (hiking, backpacking, climbing), traveling, road trips, trying new foods, live music, dancing, and jigsaw puzzles.
