Biography

Dr. Yanagihara was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai'i. He attended the University of Washington (Go Dawgs!) where he completed his bachelor’s degree in biology and earned his medical degree from the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine. As an undergraduate, Ryan gained his first clinical exposure to ophthalmology and was captivated by the significant impact of sight-saving medicines, surgeries, and innovations.

As a medical student, he became interested in underserved eye care and medical education. He then conducted research at the University of Washington Computational Ophthalmology (Lee) Lab, where he gained valuable insights into cutting-edge ophthalmic research and contributed to a number of big data, deep learning, and clinical imaging studies. He is excited to continue his training in Seattle and serve the Pacific Northwest community. In his free time, Ryan enjoys photography, gardening, hiking, and learning about marine invertebrates.
