Ophthalmology faculty and staff volunteer at Special Olympics vision screening
Assistant Professor Miel Sundararajan, MD and a group of UW Department of Ophthalmology Eye Institute staff participated in the Special Olympics "Opening Eyes" vision screening event at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, near Tacoma.
"I am truly grateful for each of your help and am proud of what we accomplished in just a few hours! For most of you, this was your first Opening Eyes vision screening. As you saw, the athletes appreciate what we do so much! I hope your heart feels as filled as mine always does after an event," said Katie Hash, clinical director for Opening Eyes of Special Olympics Washington.
The volunteers screened 63 athletes, including 14 needing follow up with to ensure they receive further care, and 43 glasses were ordered.
