Todd Margolis, PhD, MD, joined the faculty in 2026 from Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of infectious and inflammatory eye disease, with a particular interest in eye disease due to herpes viruses, ocular graft versus host disease, ocular pain and ocular infections in immune-compromised patients. 

His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate the establishment and maintenance of latent neuronal infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV). His research also focuses on low cost screening of individuals at risk for blinding retinal disease, the role of the ocular microbiome in ocular graft versus host disease, and prospective clinical trials for OSSN. 

Margolis has served as the president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and on the National Eye Advisory Council of the National Eye Institute.

Dr. Margolis specializes in the diagnosis and management of infectious and inflammatory eye disease, with a particular interest in eye disease due to herpes viruses, ocular graft versus host disease, ocular pain and ocular infections in immune-compromised patients. 

Dr. Margolis has a long-standing interest in the regulation of infection with Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), spending decades studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms of how HSV and sensory interact to regulate productive and latent viral infection.
