Biography

Dr. Leveque earned her bachelor's degree from Amherst College. She earned her Master's in Public Health (M.P.H.) at the University of North Carolina. She completed her M.D. at Duke University School of Medicine. She was inducted into the honors societies Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha in college and medical school, respectively. Following her internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, she completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, where she was a co-chief resident. She completed a one-year clinical fellowship in ocular inflammatory diseases and uveitis at the University of Washington. Dr. Leveque was formerly a faculty member at the Kellogg Eye Center and joined the faculty at UW Medicine Eye Institute when she moved to Seattle in 2008. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist and participates in maintenance of certification with the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Leveque divides her clinical time between comprehensive ophthalmology and uveitis. In her comprehensive practice, she treats patients with a broad spectrum of conditions such as dry eyes and ocular surface disease, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, visual symptoms, eye pain, ocular manifestations of systemic disease, and trauma. She performs lasers for glaucoma or secondary cataract. She dedicates two half-days per week to the oversight of the very busy ophthalmology consult service at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Leveque's uveitis practice is a referral-based clinic in which she provides expert subspecialty opinions and treatment for complex inflammatory, autoimmune and infectious eye diseases. Dr. Leveque and her team use diagnostics such as detailed patient history, careful physical examination, multimodal eye imaging, and laboratory testing to diagnose and treat uveitic conditions, including scleritis and ulcerative keratitis, and anterior, intermediate, posterior and panuveitis. She administers and monitors systemic immunomodulatory therapy, local medications and performs periocular and intravitreal injections, including slow-release steroid implants. While primarily dedicated to the clinical care of patients, Dr. Leveque also enjoys teaching uveitis fellows, ophthalmology residents, medical students, and ophthalmic technicians — receiving top scores for clarity, organization, collegiality, and humor. She is a member of the education committee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has been an invited lecturer at national and regional meetings and has served as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. She has co-authored a number of journal articles, textbook chapters, and clinical expert interviews on uveitis topics.
